Radon Testing & Mitigation

Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas that can enter homes and buildings through cracks and openings in the foundation, posing serious health risks. At Tennessee Environmental Safety Group (TESG), we offer comprehensive radon testing & mitigation services to protect your indoor air quality and ensure a safe living or working environment.

Protect your family, employees, and property from radon hazards with TESG’s expert radon services.

Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas formed by the natural breakdown of uranium in soil and rock. It is completely invisible, odorless, and tasteless. When radon gas leaks out of the ground and becomes trapped inside enclosed structures, it accumulates to dangerous levels, serving as the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. Testing is the only definitive way to know if your indoor air is safe.

A standard professional radon screening requires a minimum of 48 hours of continuous indoor monitoring. During this testing window, all external doors and windows must remain closed (except for normal, brief entry and exit) to ensure the highly sensitive continuous monitoring equipment can capture an accurate baseline of your indoor air levels.

  • Radon concentrations are measured in picocuries per liter of air (pCi/L). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) strongly recommends taking immediate structural action to mitigate radon levels if your test results show a concentration of 4.0 pCi/L or higher. However, because no level of radiation exposure is entirely safe, reducing levels below 2.0 pCi/L is highly recommended.

  • Yes, high radon levels can be safely and effectively mitigated. If your testing reveals elevated levels, we provide an action report detailing sub-slab depressurization methods. This involves installing a specialized vent pipe system and an inline exhaust fan to draw radon gas from beneath your home’s foundation and safely vent it out into the atmosphere above the roof line.
